Bible Verse: “But standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister…” – John 19:25
-
Devotional Reading: We often think of strength as something loud, aggressive, or powerful, but Mary teaches us a completely different kind of fortitude—the strength of silent presence, dignity, and endurance. As she stood at the foot of the cross, watching her beloved Son suffer an agonizing death, her heart was pierced with the ultimate sorrow. Yet, she remained steadfast. She did not run away in fear, nor did she complain against God’s divine plan.
When we go through seasons of deep grief, confusion, or emotional suffering, we can look to Mary as a pillar of hope. She reminds us that even in our darkest hours, standing faithful in the presence of God is where our ultimate healing begins. True strength is staying close to Jesus, even when the cross we bear feels too heavy to carry.
-
Reflection: When trials and sorrows come your way, do you find yourself drifting away from God out of anger or confusion? How can Mary’s steadfastness at the cross inspire you to hold onto your faith during your own difficult Fridays?
-
Prayer & Application: If you or someone you know is carrying a heavy cross right now, offer that pain up to God. Pray for the quiet endurance that Mary possessed. Remember that Friday was not the end of the story; Resurrection Sunday was coming. Trust that your current suffering is not the final chapter.
